Hotel furniture made of HI-MACS for Ramada Plaza Craiova
A spectacular project proposed by Ardesign for Ramada Hotel Group that opened the door of their first hotel outside Bucharest in 2015, Ramada Plaza Craiova, in the south-east of the country.
The hotel furniture concept was inspired from Constantin Brancus’s opera and stands out with elegance of form and the sensible use of materials, combining the simplicity of ethnic Romanian art specific to the great sculptor with the performance of the high-tech materials.
Given the fact that these are elements of furniture that undergo a great traffic, the design studio proposed for the manufacturing of the specific hotel furniture – hotel reception, bar furniture, lounge furniture, lobby furniture and concierge furniture –a material with properties of high resistance to mechanical action, technical possibilities for manufacturing and easy maintenance.
The furniture for the hotel reception is inspired from the Endless Column, and the entire body is made of HI-MACS Toffee Brown. Due to its properties of having invisible joints the manufacturing of the octahedrons as if made from a single piece was possible as we find them in Bracus’s column. The separation between the reception and the concierge furniture element is made with a massive pillar covered in painted glass which gives consistency to the space. The reception is made out of three workstations made of HI-MACS Babylon Beige, slightly inclined and raised to the counter height, which masks the desktops and the card reading devices.
The retro desk furniture is composed of two elements made of melamine chipboard furniture: a storage place and melamine chipboard back wall plating. These merge with the general chromatic line of the hotel: walnut and birch essences.
The space of the lounge and lobby was envisioned by Ardesign as a multifunctional and a leisure area at the same time, friendly and elegant, in which the focus was set on details and the quality of the materials. The central piece here is the hotel bar furniture. It was made of HI-MACS Lucent Opal and HI-MACS Alpine White, and the fronts were covered in purple leather with a sophisticated texture that conjures the stingray leather. The bar counter made of HI-MACS is back lit with LED lights that warm the room.
To highlight the dramatic effect of the space and also to give it depth the architects proposed for the whole area behind the bar mirrors plating and volumetric shelves made of HI-MACS Lucent back lit with a LED lighting system.
The bar area is flanked by two volumetric elements upholstered with the same leather as the bar which shape also remind us of the great Brancusi. Luxurious elements are omnipresent, shell chairs, golden velvet upholstered sofas and tables made of precious wood.
The entire lobby and lounge area is separated from the main hallway by flower pots made with walnut finishes from which flowers “grow”, made of rolled steel strips and powder coated. The line of the flower pots is interrupted by a central piece, made completely out of HI-MACS Lucent and Alpine White, highly lighted, which bring into notice from the entry of the hotel the lobby and bar area.
HI-MACS, high performance material from LG Hausys
HI-MACS is an acrylic composite material made by LG that can be molded into any form. It is highly used in architectural projects and for interior design as well. It is a high performance material, found in residential, commercial and public spaces, from wall cladding, kitchens, bathrooms and furniture elements.
It is composed of acryl, natural minerals pigment which together form a smooth surface, non-porous, that comply with the highest demands regarding esthetics, functionality, hygiene and manufacturing.
HI-MACS offer countless possibilities of design and continue to inspire the most creative minds of the world. Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, Rafael Moneo, Karim Rashid or David Chipperfield amongst others have had fabulous projects, from kitchens and bathrooms, including decorative elements, to museums, commercial galleries and wall claddings.
HI-MACS is a thermo formable material. Using a simple warming process tridimensional shapes can be manufactured. Thought heating, HI-MACS can take the shape of any mould, achieving organic elements, curved, properties that make it be recommended by architects all around the world.
HI-MACS can be processed with invisible joints. By the simple apposition with the specific adhesive and polishing the elements become as if made from a single piece, monolithic, results that cannot be achieved with traditional materials.
HI-MACS is manufactured in a wide range of colors and textures. Annually, products designers from LG come up with new and fashionable colors and textures. The current collection is made of 86 colors and textures, including Lucent that allows translucency when backlit.
HI-MACS is a durable material. While it is the most resistant of all the solid surfaces materials it can be processed the same way as wood. It can be cut, milled, drilled, pasted, molded, and using simple carpentry tools.
HI-MACS is a hygienic material. In terms of hygiene, HI-MACS is waterproof, resistant to stain, easily maintained and to clean with simple, usual cleaning products. After years of usage with a simple re-sanding the surface will look just as well as it did the first day.
HI-MACS is certificated for outdoor applications. In terms of fire resistance, ecological and hygiene, HI-MACS is the only acrylic composite material that has the ETA certification (European Technical Approval) for wall cladding.
HI-MACS offers a long warranty. LG Hausys together with the authorized members of the QUALITY CLUB offer a 10 years warranty certification for the manufactured products.
HI-MACS the next generation of materials. Processing HI-MACS can only be done using the newest technologies in manufacturing materials with acrylic compounds. Unlike similar materials, which undergo a chemical cure process, HI-MACS is put to a second treatment in which it is heated and exposed to high temperature in a controlled manner (thermal cure), making the material more dens, more homogeneous, more resistant to scratches and mechanical actions and so more durable.
Reluctance against color change under UV rays is also superior in comparison with other materials. Least but not last, the quality most appreciated by manufacturers is the fact that due to these treatments the material gains superior thermo forming properties and it can be processed more easily.
